Meeting with Smt.Zohra Chatterjee Secretary Textiles on 26th,March,2014 at Udyog Bhawan, New Delhi.

We are happy to inform you that a delegation of D.M.A. led by Mr.Sharad Jaipuria, President along with Mr. Aamir Akhtar, Mr.Rajiv Dayal, Mr.Nitesh Dhingra and Mr.Gagandeep Singh met Textile Secretary Mrs.Zohra Chatterjee along with Addl. D.G.F.T. Mr.D.K.Singh, Director M.O.T. Mr.Ram Singh, Under Secretary Mr.Parveen Jargar and Mr.Dinesh Kumar officiating Textile Commissioner on Wednesday 26th March,2014. Photograph enclosed.

Mr. Jaipuria briefed Textile Secretary about previous meeting of D.M.A. delegation with Hon’ble Textile Minister Dr.K.S.Rao and Member Secretary N.M.C.C. Mr.Ajay Shankar  on 11th March,2014.

Mr.Jaipuria  informed Textile Secretary that the purpose of this meeting is to give them a presentation on “Branding of Indian Denim” and as well as a presentation on “ Key Highlights of Indian Denim Industry” .

Thereafter Mr.Rajiv Dayal gave a presentation to Textile Secretary on “ Key Highlights of Indian Denim Industry”. During the course of the presentation Mr.Rajiv Dayal highlighted the following aspects :

Installed Denim Capacity, Investment in the Industry, Labor employment by the Industry, Turnover
        of the Industry, Export Turnover etc.
Indian Denim fabric production, consumption and trade balance for 2012-13.
How Indian Denim exports can achieve greater heights with multiple supporting factors.
How branding can lead to incremental exports, generation of employment, foreign exchange earnings etc.
Activities required to be undertaken to promote Indian Denim as a brand.
Explanation and justification for the support required from Government for promoting Indian Denim.

After conclusion of the presentation every officer in the meeting praised the presentation made before them and showed their keen interest in helping the Industry. Textile Secretary even addressed Denim Industry as the “Sunrise Sector” in entire textile industry.

Thereafter Mr.Aamir Akhtar gave a detailed presentation on Branding of Indian Denim. It is hereby informed that while making presentation Mr.Aamir Akhtar highlighted following main aspects :

How Indian Heritage can play an important role in Branding of Indian Denim.
India being pioneer in production of Indigo.
Relevance of Cotton Abundance in India.
Importance of craftsmanship in India for branding.
How multiple fashions, colors and traditions can play an important role in distinguishing Indian Denim Globally.
Highlighted the concept of eco-friendly denim by using plant dyed indigo, Khadi denim etc.

It is hereby further informed that Mr.Aamir Akhtar also placed before officers  some samples of Handloom Denim, Khadi Denim, Hand Painted Denim, Denim with traditional embroidery work etc.

Everyone praised the presentation given by Mr.Aamir Akhtar and showed their consensus in regard to the relevance of promoting Indian Denim as a Brand.
Textile Secretary further suggested if D.M.A. can also organize a curtain raiser(fashion show) event at the earliest as same can bring D.M.A.’s proposal for branding in lime light.

Textile Secretary also suggested that in same all senior officials from Ministry of Textiles, Ministry of Commerce, D.G.F.T. dept., Planning Commission, Cabinet Secretary, N.M.C.C. dept., Finance Secretary, D.I.P.P. dept., D.C. Handloom & Handicrafts etc. may be called, as same will make it easy for Textile Ministry to float D.M.A.’s proposal smoothly towards its approval.

Thereafter D.M.A.’s delegation appreciated the suggestion of Textile Secretary and assured that D.M.A. will be organizing a Curtain Raiser event for branding of Indian Denim at the earliest and also requested Textile Secretary to extend her cooperation in getting confirmation of the senior officials for attending this event.
